The National Mental Health Program is based in Health Protection Agency, Ministry of Health. The program is responsible to for the guardianship and ensuring the implementation of The Mental Health Policy and The National Mental Health Strategic Plan which covers the full continuum of services needed to improve mental health well-being of all individuals. With the aim of building a comprehensive system of primary mental health and specialized services The National Mental Health Program collaborates with multiple stakeholders from various sectors to strengthen the promotion of mental well-being and establishing a quality, accessible, sustainable and humane mental healthcare system in Maldives.
To ensure mental health is valued, promoted, and protected, and metal disorders are prevented and persons affected by these disorders are able to exercise the full range of human rights and to access high- quality, culturally appropriate health and social care in a timely way to promote recovery all in order to attain the highest possible level of health and participated fully in society and at work, free from stigmatization and discrimination.
As the Guardian of the National Mental Health Policy and National Mental health plan, the program facilitates access to resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness.
